Meant to serve as a global education guide for teachers, administrators, and students, this website is my capstone project from my participation in the IREX Teachers for Global Classrooms Program.
Whether you are a teacher looking for new and innovative ways to engage your students with global issues, or an administrator interested in globalizing your school's curriculum, you will find numerous resources throughout the site that will help your students become 21st century, globally competent citizens. |
Global education can be defined as "a curriculum that seeks to prepare students to live in a progressively interconnected world where the study of human values, institutions, and behaviors are contextually examined through a pedagogical style that promotes critical engagements of complex, diverse information toward socially meaningful action (Gaudelli, 2003.).

What is Global Citizenship? In order for students
to function as global citizens they will need skills for jobs that don’t even
exist yet (Asia
Society Website, 2011; Mansilla & Jackson, 2011, P. 2 ) According to Mansilla and Jackson (2011), the
“challenge of global labor competition” will require that we train students to
think outside the box and use creativity.

What is Global Competency? There are four components of globally competency for students. One, they investigate the world beyond their immediate environment. Two, they recognize their own and others' perspectives. Three, they communicate their ideas effectively with diverse audiences. Four, they translate their ideas and findings into appropriate actions to improve conditions. For a more thorough explanation of global competency, please visit the Asia Society.
